A 50 year old Stephen came to our clinic for digestive issues.
Stephen regularly gets headaches behind his eyes. He suspects that his actively reducing the dosage of his Afflexor medications may have contributed the aches. Acupressure treatments seemed to help alleviate the aches.
Stephen originally came for IBS and stress. His stress makes his head feeling cloudy and foggy. He has normal appetite without acid reflux. Bowl Movement is daily (It flares up once or twice a week). His bowl tends to be loose, urgent, and occassional odor. Diarrhea occurs about five times a week. His digestion is mild gassy once in a while.Stephen falls asleep all right. His body temperature tends to be hot than cold. He sweat a little in the evening. His energy runs about 6 to 7 out of a scale of 1 to 10. His motivation has been good.
He experienced some depression, and was mildly irritable. His tongue exhibits a mild to moderate purple color; it is swollen. Tongue tends to be slightly toward the pale side.
The formula prescribed includes: Shi chang pu, yuan zhi, and yu jin, 3 herbs to open heart orifices. It also contains chuan xiong, hong hua, tao ren chuan nui xi, jie geng, huang qin, zhi zi, etc. to clear heat and move blood. When he tried reducing his western meds, we added a little more Chuan xiong, shi chang pu, and yuan zhi to offset drug's withdrawal effect.
When he experienced more loose stools, the formula increases its dosage on: fu ling, bai zhu, wu wei zi, and wu zhu yu.
It took more than a few weeks to get Stephan's condition under control. He was happy with the herbal formula after three weeks and reported that his condition returned to normal.
