38 year old Fay came to the clinic complaining about a trigger finger on her right hand. Fay's fourth finger had occasionally jammed up on her in the last year or so. Recently it became more and more frequent. When she wakes up in the morning, she would find her 4th finger on her right hand bending and "stuck". It's really hard to make it straight back up. It was not painful but very annoying.
Fay was treated with acupuncture needles during her first treatment. It took about 30 minutes. She laid on her back and a few needles went on her finger
tip, arm, and elbow. Moxibution threads were burned beside a few needles. Afterwards Fay can straighten her right 4th finger.
After a week Fay reported that her trigger finger came back. She was told that acupuncture treatments needed to administered in a couple or three sessions not too far apart to get this resolved once and for all.
How to treat trigger fingers depends on which channel or which finger the spasm or jam occurs. In Fay's case, the 4th finger indicates the Tripple Warmer or San Jiao channel is involved. It's very likely that Fay holds a life style which prompts her to go to bed late. According to Chinese Clock Gallbladder and Liver time is between 11pm and 3am. That is when this pair of organs/channels go to work the earnest. By not going to bed early enough before 10:30pm, we jeopardize our chances of restoring our blood into liver at night. When Gallbladder and Liver functions get impaired, the first indication was malfunction of our tendons and ligaments. Another indication is that Triple Warmer (San Jiao) channel is named Shao-Yin in hands and Gallbladder channel is named Shao-Yin in feet. This is another connection in Chinese medicine.
